Human Rights in Education has been developed as an open collaborative initiative of schools, early childhood education settings, and other agencies and individuals involved in education.

There is a conceptual core that defines the Initiative, rather than detailed prescription.

Overall strategy development and implementation are managed by the Initiative Director (Ced Simpson), a Facilitation Team of individuals with specific expertise, and various project teams.

The national team includes:

•    Lynn Scott, Cool Schools Regional Coordinator, former principal Hamilton Girls High School
•    Karen Johansen, Human Rights Commissioner , former principal Gisborne Girls' High School
•    Sarah Te One, Victoria University, researcher on perceptions of children’s rights in ECE
•    Te Huia Bill Hamilton, Human Rights Commission, Chair Māori Education Trust.
•    Rachel Tallon, Global Education Centre
•    Jack Byrne, Senior Policy Analyst, Human Rights Commission.

The schools, centres and other agreed partners in the Initiative play an active and supporting role in the development of the Initiative by sharing their knowledge and experience.

The Human Rights in Education Trust has been established as a charitable trust to facilitate the work of the Initiative. The Trust:

• employs the Director and provides governance for the national resources of the Initiative, including funds and resource centre (Wellington Office and webservice)
• maintains key stakeholder links
• protects the identity and integrity of the Initiative.

NATIONAL IMPLEMENTATION
