Educators involved in Human Rights in Education are guided by a recognition that every child in New Zealand is entitled to an education that respects and helps realise their human rights and those of others.
This fits in with New Zealand's aspirations for its education system, values and the international human rights obligations we helped formulate as a country.
Human Rights in Education strategy is outlined in “strategy maps” for the overall Initiative and for the development of HRiE in schools.
When linked to “balanced scorecards” containing specific measures, these visual depictions of HRiE strategy can act as a tool for managing strategy implementation. The methodology is derived from work by Robert Kaplan and David Norton and is used by an increasing number of schools and school districts in the US and UK.
